Intersection. A photographic exploration of modern parenthood in Hackney

"Intersection" a photographic exploration in to the untold narratives of new parenthood.

What is Intersection

The Intersection is a photographic exploration in to the lived experiences of creatives who encounter the juggernaut of modern parenthood for the very first time. Narratives are both visual and written to deepen our understanding. Each piece rests around three key themes;

  • Sense of selfhood

  • Perception of creative practice

  • Connection with the people around us

Why Intersection exists

Entering parenthood was a wholly transformative experience. So much is left unsaid about how a person rebuilds their perception of themselves, their practice, and the world around them. This deeply personal and highly emotive life stage is laden with insight that has the power to teach and connect us, and help us become more brave.

How Intersection works

Step one - We conduct a 30 minute interview with people who are navigating the intersection of new parenthood and creative practice to explore the lived experience.

Step two - We then take a portrait. Child in one hand. An object that represents your practice or perspective in the other.

What inspired Intersection

Parenthood - one of the most powerful experiences a human will every go through. Yet, the full story lays untold. This silence leads to isolation. The amplification of this story, we hope, will spark honest discourse that builds courage and deepens connection.

What Intersection isn't

Intersection is not a family portrait. It's not a stylised photoshoot. Intersection is not about the child/children per se. The creative parent is the muse and this is an honest look at their story.
